
Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday thanks to a brace scored by their captain, Ilkay Gundogan.
Manchester City winning the FA Cup means Arsenal will compete in the 2023/24 FA Community Shield ahead of next season, after finishing second in the Premier League, for the first time since the 2015/16 season. The year Leicester City won the league.
Arsenal pushed Manchester City all the way in the Premier League, however after leading for the majority of the season, Mikel Arteta’s side just came up short in the final few weeks when they got injuries to key players that they couldn’t replace.
Although the Gunners will be disappointed they didn’t win the league this season, they can still be proud of the clear progress they have made throughout the 2022/23 campaign, topped off with a date at Wembley against Manchester City before the 2023/24 Premier League season gets underway in August.
Arsenal will face Manchester City on Sunday the 6th August in the 2023/24 FA Community Shield.
Arsenal have won the FA Community Shield 16 times in their history, only second to Manchester United who have won the trophy 21 times. Liverpool have also won the shield 16 times, so the Gunners will have the chance to go ahead of Liverpool when they face Manchester City in August.
The FA Community Shield is one of two trophies Mikel Arteta has won at Arsenal, winning the trophy in 2020/21. Arsenal haven’t lost in an FA Community Shield final since 2005.
