The 142nd edition of the oldest competition in England started this weekend for Premier League clubs, and of course we are talking about the FA Cup.
This weekend, there was no Premier League football, but a weekend wouldn’t be a weekend without English clubs playing. The FA Cup begun and we were already witnessed some massive upsets and results.
Some of the teams that were predicted to go very far in the competition, or at least to the next round, finished their participation this weekend. Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa & Nottingham Forest have disappointed their fans by losing to Stevenage (2-1) and Blackpool (4-1) respectively. Liverpool drew with Wolves (2-2) so they will have a replay later this month with Tottenham Hotspur squeezing their way through by beating Portsmouth (1-0).
Manchester City’s trashed Chelsea 4-0, even without their first team stars such as De Bruyne or Haaland featuring. The Blues didn’t give them as tough of a game as people were expecting. Three goals past Kepa in the first half, and another one in the second saw Manchester City comfortably advance to the next round where they will face either Arsenal or Oxford United.
Arsenal are obviously massive favourites going into tomorrow’s game, however as with all the upsets so far this round stated above, no game is won on paper and Mikel Arteta’s men will need to avoid complacency to get into the next round of a competition they love so much.
The Gunners are aiming to extend their record and win their 15th FA Cup trophy.
It is important to remind you that Arsenal will wear their “No More Red” shirts with the aim of reducing the crime rate in London and helping young people.
Let’s hope Arsenal do what they couldn’t last season and get a third round victory tomorrow night.
