Arsenal appointed super strict referee for Sporting clash

Antonio Mateu Lahoz, from Spain, has been appointed as the referee for Arsenal’s Europa League round-of-16 second-leg against Sporting at The Emirates Stadium on Thursday.

Assistant Referees: Pau Cebrián Devís & Roberto Del Palomar.

Fourth Official: Ricardo de Burgos.

VAR: Massimiliano Irrati.

Assistant VAR: Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva.

Antonio Mateu Lahoz referees mainly in La Liga where he has taken control of 258 matches in total, however the Spaniard also referees Champions League/Europa League games as well as international football too.

He’s one of the strictest refs in the game, averaging 4.63 yellow cards a match & gives one red card every five games, on average. He’s given 69 red cards in total throughout his career, spanning across 339 games of domestic & international football.

Arsenal will have to make sure they’re on their best behaviour on Thursday, in order to give themselves the best chance of keeping eleven men on pitch and going through to the next round of the competition.
