Arsenal are set to invite Ligue One side AS Monaco for the Emirates Cup at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Emirates Cup is a pre-season friendly tournament held by Arsenal. The tournament is named after the club’s main sponsors Emirates.

Arsenal first held the tournament in 2007. It has been held every year up until 2017, except for 2012 when the London Olympics took place and 2016 because of the extended schedule of the Euro Cup. In 2018, the Emirates stadium had to undergo building work which meant that the Emirates cup would once again not be held.

Later in 2019, the Emirates Cup returned with the Arsenal Women’s side featuring for the first time. Normally, four teams would participate in the knockout stages. However, due to Covid-19 only Arsenal would feature with only one other team. Arsenal men’s side hosted Lyon and lost 2-1 and the Women’s side hosted Bayern, who they lost to by one goal and having scored none.

The cup took a break but returned yet again in 2022. However, this time only the men’s team participated as the Women’s Euro 2022 cup was being held. Arsenal hosted Sevilla and triumphed over them to win the competition for the sixth time.

Arsenal are set to fly out to Germany this weekend where they’ll face FC Nurnberg before heading out to the States to complete the majority of their pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
