The Arsenal line-up has been announced for the game against Brentford in the Carabao Cup tonight and there’s one surprise inclusion by Mikel Arteta as he gives 19-year-old, Charles Sagoe Jr his competitive debut for the Gunners.

Aaron Ramsdale returns in goal, ahead of David Raya. Kiwior and Tomiyasu start at full-back with Ben White and Gabriel the two in the middle of the defence. Jorginho starts just in front as he looks to make up for his error in the North London Derby last time out. Kai Havertz and Emile Smith Rowe are ahead of him, with the later making his 100th appearance in red & white. Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah join debut boy Charles Sagoe Jr up top.

So who is the man making his Arsenal debut tonight? Charles Sagoe Jr is a 19-year-old winger, who can also play through the middle. He joined Hale End from the Fulham academy in 2015 at 11-years-old.

The skilful winger has scored one goal and recorded four assists in five Premier League 2 appearances for the Arsenal U21s so far this season.

He’s a player rated extremely highly within the club, so although it may come as a surprise to many that he’s making his competitive debut tonight, it won’t come as a surprise to the Arsenal coaches who know just how good the teenager is.

Sagoe Jr is a player Mikel Arteta has been monitoring for some time. The 19-year-old featured for the first team in a friendly against Brentford B in March 2022 and he was also on the bench against Sporting last season, as per Jeorge Bird.
