What Mikel Arteta has done with this current squad is nothing short of amazing. Since his arrival at the club, we have seen glimpses of the style of play and the brand of football he wanted to instil on his Arsenal team. But this season, it has come together exactly how he wanted and exactly how he promised it would.
It’s now January 6th and Arsenal currently sit top of the premier league table, five points clear of Manchester City. This Arsenal eleven has shown free flowing, attacking football along with the end product to match. Along with stern no nonsense defending; which has made us one the best defensive sides in the league with eight clean sheets to date.
Arsenal look formidable and fierce, there’s no doubt about that. However, there is one area that appears to be raising questions surrounding Arsenal’s title hopes… their squad depth.
In light of Arsenal’s recent 0-0 draw to Newcastle, you saw that Arteta’s side didn’t have anyone special up their sleeve to introduce from the bench. A couple of substitutions to rattle Newcastle’s game and bring us a spark off the bench is what was needed.
In contrast, Manchester City were also staring at a 0-0 draw with Chelsea, until they brought £160m worth of talent off the bench. Jack Grealish got the ball to Riyad Mahrez inside the penalty area and Pep Guardiola’s side cut Arsenal’s gap at the top of the Premier league table.
Pep had options off the bench to turn the game in City’s favour, Arteta brought on a right back. That’s the difference.
Arsenal’s starting eleven is up there with the best in the league, but reinforcements are needed in January if The Gunners are to have any hope of winning their first premier league title in 19 years. The first since the golden days of the Invincibles.
A back up striker, a winger and a defensive midfielder is what most Arsenal fans feel the team needs in order for the team to be able to survive this upcoming onslaught of games over the next few weeks. Links to players such as Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix would provide the perfect depth and attacking options needed in this battle for the title.
Arsenal fans hope the club will do anything in their power to get these type of deals done.
Looking at it right now it seems January will be the deciding factor in who wins the Premier League title this season. Many believe City’s depth is too far gone to match. However, if Arsenal can get some deals over the line this month, then no one could predict how the title race will end.

Absolutely. It cost us against Newcastle and if we don’t add, it will definitely cost us come end of the season. It’s always the same with Arsenal, dragging their feet with every transfer. We should have sign the players we need before our next match , but at the pace they are moving, we just might not sign anyone.
