Former Spurs striker and Arsenal fan, Darren Bent has said Arsenal should look at signing Romelu Lukaku as their main striker this summer.
As the season has drawn to a close Arsenal will once again be looking to strengthen their squad this summer and, although there are many other areas which hold more importance in adding quality to, there have been a few question marks as to whether Gabriel Jesus is capable of leading the line at Arsenal going forward.
Former Tottenham striker and Arsenal fan Darren Bent is one of the critics as he has recently stated on TalkSPORT that Romelu Lukaku would score more goals leading Arsenal’s line than current first choice striker Gabriel Jesus as he believes the Belgium international is a more natural number nine.
Jesus joined the gunners last summer in search of more game time as well as becoming the main front man for Arsenal and although the Brazilian was out for 3 months of the campaign due to injury he has succeeded thus far to a certain degree. Netting 11 Premier League goals in 26 appearances with 4 being headed goals and 3 each on his right and left foot. This would further emphasis his great all-round ability which has been in question as of recent times.

The four-time Premier League winner has proven throughout his time in England that his influence on the pitch is far greater than just scoring goals. From his link up play to his ability to effectively dribble and glide past opponents, the impact Jesus enhances isn’t always caught on the statistics however the showboating Brazilian most certainly is an eye catching talent.
The 26-year-old is vital to the way Mikel Arteta wants to play. Jesus’ ability to come out wide and play on the wing is crucial to letting Saka and Martinelli come inside and grab goals, which we saw consistently throughout the 2022/23 campaign. Gabriel Jesus can do many things Romelu Lukaku can’t and any deal involving the Brazilian this summer is extremely unlikely, with the Arsenal boss very happy with his number nine. Sorry Darren Bent…
Mikel Arteta’s side have proven this campaign they do not need to rely on one outlet to bring them the goals having scored 88 goals in the 22/23 league season which is also the most scored by an Arsenal side in a Premier league season ever.  The likes of Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard and Trossard have assisted Jesus in bringing the goals which would therefore apply less pressure on one particular individual.
It isn’t doubted that bringing in a striker who guarantees 20 league goals would benefit the gunners however we are yet to witness Jesus lead the line for Arsenal in a full campaign and its clear to witness from the glimpses so far that he most definitely holds the credentials to become the main strike force going forward.
The 26-year-old will now have to live up to expectations in the upcoming season however if pressure makes diamonds then Arsenal could potentially have a gem on their hands…
